UBTech Robotics to Begin Mass Production of Humanoid Robots by Late 2025

UBTech Robotics, a Shenzhen-based robotics leader, has announced its plans to start mass-producing humanoid robots by the end of 2025. This year, the company will ship between 500 and 1,000 industrial robots, including the Walker S2 model, which features a lighter and stronger design.

Expanding Industrial Robotics Production

Michael Tam, UBTech’s Head of Marketing, confirmed that the company will deliver up to 1,000 humanoid robots in 2024, with major customers including Foxconn, SF Express, and leading automakers. Over 60% of these shipments will be the upcoming Walker S2, set for release in Q2 2024.

Additionally, UBTech is working on an even more advanced model, Walker S3, expected later this year. While the company envisions humanoid robots in households, its current focus remains on industrial applications to tackle labor shortages in manufacturing and logistics. Unlike homes, factories provide structured environments where robots can operate efficiently.

UBTech’s Competitive Edge in Robotics

Founded in 2012, UBTech has become one of China’s top robotics companies. In 2023, it went public on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, marking a significant milestone in its growth.

In October 2023, the company introduced its first industrial humanoid, Walker S1, which is now deployed in automotive manufacturing. Foxconn, a key UBTech partner, is integrating these robots, though further customization is required to optimize their factory performance.

Despite intensifying competition in China’s robotics sector, UBTech believes its 10+ years of experience provide a strong market advantage.

Financial Outlook: Prioritizing AI Investments Over Profitability

UBTech remains unprofitable but is prioritizing AI development over short-term financial gains. In the first half of 2024, the company reported a net loss of ¥516.4 million ($70.5 million), a slight improvement from ¥532.8 million ($72.7 million) in H1 2023.

Despite these losses, UBTech continues to invest heavily in AI and robotics R&D, aiming to solidify its market leadership.

Looking Ahead

With industrial humanoid robots gaining traction, UBTech is positioning itself as a major player in the field. The transition to mass production in 2025 could mark a turning point, bringing advanced robotics closer to widespread adoption.
