Expanding Home-Based Elderly Care
Home-based care remains a priority for many seniors who wish to age within the comfort of their own homes. In 2024, the central government allocated 300 million yuan (approximately $41.73 million USD) to implement elderly meal assistance programs nationwide. This initiative, combined with the creation of 358,000 in-home care beds, has significantly improved the quality of life for many elderly citizens.
Growth in Institutional Care
Institutional elderly care has also expanded rapidly. By late 2024, China boasted 404,000 elderly care institutions and facilities, providing additional options for seniors requiring more comprehensive support. These institutions aim to ensure the elderly receive appropriate medical and social services.
Future Initiatives for 2025
The Ministry of Civil Affairs plans to introduce forward-looking policies in 2025 that promote active social participation among the elderly and reinforce their legal rights. These efforts aim to foster inclusivity while addressing the unique needs of older adults.
