China Launches the CETROVO 1.0 Carbon Fiber Metro Train

China has become the first country to introduce a metro train made from carbon fiber. The CETROVO 1.0, developed by CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co, has already begun transporting passengers on Qingdao’s Metro Line 1 in Shandong Province. This innovative train is 11% lighter than traditional trains of similar size, which reduces energy consumption by 7%, cutting CO2 emissions by approximately 130 tons annually—equivalent to planting 6.7 hectares of forest.

Technological Advantages of Carbon Fiber

The CETROVO 1.0 is primarily built from carbon fiber, a material five times stronger than steel yet weighing only 25% of its mass. This allows for reduced overall weight, increased strength and durability, and less vibration, making the ride more comfortable and quieter for passengers.

Qingdao’s Metro Line 1, spanning 60 kilometers and including 41 stations, is a major transportation corridor for the city. CETROVO 1.0 is perfectly suited for rapidly growing megacities, offering strength and reliability. After several years of testing, the train has achieved a maximum speed of 140 km/h, which is significantly higher than the average speed of Chinese metro trains, which usually reach only 80 km/h.

The train is equipped with an automated control system that ensures smooth operation and minimizes maintenance needs. Additionally, it features advanced safety systems, including collision warnings and obstacle detection, which can automatically stop the train in case of an emergency.
