Microsoft Launches CoreAI Team to Drive AI Innovation

Microsoft has unveiled CoreAI, a new engineering team focused on advancing artificial intelligence. Jay Parikh, who worked at Meta for ten years, now leads this initiative. He joined Microsoft in October 2024 and brings extensive experience in engineering projects. The CoreAI team will create AI platforms and tools for both internal and external users.

CEO Satya Nadella emphasized that 2025 will be a defining year for AI. According to him, artificial intelligence will speed up processes that used to take decades. This shift will revolutionize how applications are designed and developed.

CoreAI’s Primary Objectives

The CoreAI team aims to build an “AI-first app stack.” This flexible infrastructure will integrate AI into every layer of app development. Nadella believes AI will influence every stage of software creation. He predicts tasks that usually take 30 years will now finish in just three.

The Azure platform will serve as the foundation for these innovations. Microsoft plans to extend Azure’s capabilities to services like Azure AI Foundry, GitHub, and VS Code. These tools will empower developers to create more efficient AI-powered applications.

CoreAI also focuses on the Copilot & AI stack, which caters to all Microsoft customers. This technology will accelerate the creation of intelligent agents and AI applications. Nadella explained that these tools will transform the SaaS industry while redefining software development.

Leadership and Organizational Changes

The CoreAI team brings together experts from multiple departments. These include the Developer Division (Dev Div), the AI Platform, and the Office of the CTO. Parikh, now Executive Vice President of CoreAI, reports directly to Nadella.

The team includes key leaders like Eric Boyd (AI platform head), Jason Taylor (VP of AI infrastructure), Julia Luson (Dev Div head), and Tim Bozarth (developer infrastructure lead). Their primary focus is redirecting the Developer Division towards AI-related projects. Nadella’s comments notably excluded Visual Studio and .NET, signaling a shift toward tools like Azure AI Foundry and GitHub.

Paving the Way for a Tech Revolution

Microsoft is preparing for a dramatic leap in technology. CoreAI’s efforts will reshape the company’s platforms and development processes. Nadella emphasized that AI will drive the most significant transformation in tech history. He is confident the “AI-first” approach will redefine software creation and power future innovation.
